We the undersigned individuals, civil society, Associations and NGOs , having been made aware of the outrageous, illegal and destructive nature of the Belo Monte Dam project, the violations of indigenous and human rights, the devastating ecological impact on the Amazon Basin and resulting effect on global climate, resolve:
to call on the govermment of Brazil and the Norte Energia Consortium to immediately halt all steps towards implementation of the project,
to support the struggle of indigenous peoples and tribes as well as of civil and environmental groups against the project,
To call on the Rio +20 Conference to officially request the Brazilian government to abandon the project and to safeguard the ecological integrity, biodiversity and social viability of the Xingu river region
As Austrian citizens, to demand of the Austrian Company Andritz to withdraw from this devastating project and to desist from profiting from ecological and human destruction.
